 ITINERARY & PROGRAM

Day 1 – Palermo Apt – Cefalu – Palermo
Arrivat at Palermo airport, meet your chaufferu and transfer to the Grand Hotel Villa Igiea. Check-in. Departure to Cefalu, the ancient Kephalaiodion meaning heard or heardland, inhabited since pre-Hellenic times. It was during the Norman domination, started in 1063, that a period of great splendour began for Cefalù and culminated with the foundation of the Cathedral in 1131. The central apse is decorated by spendid Byzantine mosaics and its great cupola is entirely dominated by the majestic figure of Christ Pantocrator. Retun to Palermo and balance of the day at leisure.  (B)

Day 2 – Palermo – Monreale
After breakfast, start our day with a tour of Palermo, the capital of Sicily, a city steeped in history. This is where the Phoenicians arrived in the 8th c. BC and set up a trading station. Every single domination in Sicily left in Palermo its own visible and valuable treasures. Your local guide will lead you to discover the most important: the Norman Palace, the Palatine Chapel, the Arab-Norman Cathedral and time permitting the Oratorio of Sant richly decorated by Giacomo Serpotta’s vivacious and exuberant stuccos. Lunch at your own. Afternoon visit to Monreale and its Norman Cathedral built by King William II between 1172 and 1176, its walls entirely decorated by a splendid series of mosaics which are the most complete cycle of Byzantine style ones. Again a Christ Pantocrator dominates the great apsidal cupola. The nearby Cloister of the Benedict Monastery is square in plan with small columns arranged in regular and harmonious order. Dinner at clients own. Return and overnight stay at the hotel. (B)

Day 3 – Segesta – Selinunte – Agrigento
After breakfast, drive to Segesta, the most prosperous of the Elymian cities and age-long rival of Selinunte, located on a vast plateau in a naturally well defended position.  We will visit its quite well preserved Theatre and the Doric Temple whose majestic appereance and dominating position give great nobility to the landscape. Then, proceed to Selinunte whose archaeological area streches over a vast territory, maybe the largest in Europe. Continue to Agrigento, check-in at the Hotel Villa Athena. Time at disposal. (B)

Day 4 – Agrigento – Piazza Armerina – Taormina
After breakfast, morning visit of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, the ancient Agrakas for the Greeks and Agrigentum for the Romans. The walking tour of the ancient city takes about two hours to admire, among the others, the Temple of Demeter, the Temple of Junothe Temple of Concord, one of the best preserved Greek Temples in all the greek world.  Then, departure to Piazza Armerina and visit the splendid mosaic of the famous Roman Villa Del Casale. This is one of the most outstanding archaeological testimonies of Roman Sicily of the Imperial Age. Its series of beautiful orgamental and figured mosaics have been recently resored. There is no other place belonging to the ancient wolrd that is comprable ither in overall quantity and magnificence. Proceed to Taormina. Check-in at Grand Hotel Timeo and time at leisure. (B)

Day 5 – Taormina
After breakfast, visit Taormina, the ancient Taoromenoin, founded by the Greeks on the slopes of Monte Tauro, now the most famous Sicilian tourist resort. Its Greek-Roman Theatre, the second largest in Sicily, surpassed only by that of Syracuse, is truly magnificent with its gorgeous view ove Mt Etna and the sea. Time at leisure in the afternoon. Discover on your own the narrow streets downtown or simply relax at the terrce of the poets at the hotel with a glass of wine and the spectacular view. (B)

DAY 6 – Taormina – Siracusa – Taormina
After breakfast, full-day visit to Syracuse: the Baroque-style historical centre located in the island of Ortigia to visit the Cathedral, former a great temple devoted to Athene, the Fountain of Arethusa planted with papyrus, the Jewish quater, the Maniace Castle. In the afternoon visit to the the ancient Neapolis, the archaeological park where the most interesting remains of the Graeco-Roman heritage of Syracuse are to be visit: the Greek Theatre, the Ear of Dyonisus, the Latomie. Return to Taormina, overnight at the hotel. (B)

Day 7 – Taormina – Catania – Etna – Taormina
After breakfast, departure to Catania the town called the city of “black and white”: white plaster and marble and black lava form major parts of its architectural adornment. Start our visit with the tipical fish market then walking tour around the wonderful baroque historical centre of the city. Departure to Mt Etna to visit the area of the Silvestri Craters at about 200 mt. Then, proceed to the foothill of Mt Etna for visit and lunch to a  quality winery on Mt. Etna. Return to the hotel. (B)

Day 8 – Taormina – Catania Apt
After breakfast, transfer to Catania Airport and departure.

L’ISOLABELLA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. If cancellation is made anytime prior to departure of the tour L’ISOLABELLA only liability will be to refund to the passenger the amount it has received for the tour booking.

RESERVATION & PAYMENT
