Easyjet flies from London Gatwick to Palermo all year round, 3 times a week until mid-April, then 4/5 times a week until end of July and then 6 times a week until the end of August.

Via the Italian mainland

Alitalia has a large number of daily connections from the UK and Ireland to Sicily.
Flights are available from many UK airports via Milan or Rome to Palermo or Catania, and electronic tickets may be booked online.

Ryanair fly to Palermo from Milan (Bergamo), Venice-Treviso, Verona and Pisa (Florence) and to Trapani from Venice-Treviso, Bari, Bologna, Cagliari, Genoa, Turin and Pisa amongst others.
This latter has direct Ryanair flights from Stansted, Liverpool, Leeds-Bradford, East Midlands and Dublin so this is a very viable alternative.
